Hickory is a very hard wood, making it difficult to process. It is used for skis and drumsticks due to its excellent strength and shock absorption.
Craftsmen in the UK carefully process each piece by hand, charring them with fire to match their individual characteristics, while checking for variations between individual pieces. A major feature is that the degree of charring can easily lead to variations in the color of the handle.

The Malacca cane handle, made from rattan, becomes glossier with use and is a premium material that brings out the best in an umbrella. It has also been used for walking sticks.
Crafted by artisans in the UK and Italy, these handles exhibit variations in color and mottling. Those with natural mottling, called "flowers," are prized for their individual character, much like wood grain. These flowers also darken over time, and the entire handle develops a rich amber color, making it a handle that you can enjoy watching age and change.

Ash is also known as "tamo" and is used in sports equipment due to its strong resistance to impact. It is well-known for being used in professional baseball bats. Each walking stick and handle is finished to showcase the unique charm of natural wood, with its powerful grain, knots, and natural color.
These handles are particularly attractive, as they are made from the wood with the bark left on.

Chestnut is a soft, climbing plant native to Europe, characterized by its distinctive raised knots, which are formed by making incisions when the plant is young, giving it the appearance of a grapevine. The grip is robust and solid, with a textured feel from the knots.
Its production process is unique, and no two handles look exactly alike, making each one distinct. This material adds a strong presence even when paired with a simple umbrella.

The surface will develop a sheen, transforming into a rich, appealing texture. Scratches are less noticeable, allowing for long-term use while maintaining its beauty. However, as it is natural wood, there is a possibility that the curve of the handle, known as the "chin," may straighten due to dryness during storage. Therefore, avoid humidity and do not leave the umbrella hanging in a shoe rack.
When not in use, tie it with a string or band to prevent the "chin" from emerging.
Including the need for care, it is an elegant and attractive material.

It has minimal individual differences and a beautiful finish. The color variations range from reddish-brown to dark brown.

Kanchiku, also known as netake, is made from the processed underground rhizomes of bamboo found in the ground. Because its shoots emerge from late autumn to winter, it is called "kanchiku" (cold bamboo).
Traditionally, it has been widely used for umbrella handles and walking sticks. It is a material with significant individual differences in thickness and number of nodes. Its nodes provide a non-slip grip, offering a crisp feel and an elegant appearance.

This material transforms from a crisp texture to a lustrous amber color over time, making it enjoyable to nurture.

Ironwood is characterized by its excellent grip, durability, water resistance, and smooth texture.
It is a hardwood with excellent durability and strength, said to not rot even after being submerged in water for 100 years.
Each natural wood branch is hand-bent by artisans, so no two pieces are the same in color or curve, making each one original.
Regarding aging:
It develops a luster and gradually changes to an amber color.
Country of origin: Indonesia, Malaysia
Imported in long strands from Indonesia and other countries, only materials carefully selected by artisans are used for the handles, accounting for about half of the imported quantity. It is considered a hard material among umbrella handles, and its fine fibers create a refreshing impression with fine, vertical stripe patterns. It is lightweight and resistant to breakage.

The surface develops a luster, and the vertical grain patterns of the fibers become more prominent, revealing an elegant appearance. However, as it is natural wood, the "jaw" (curve of the handle) may straighten due to drying during storage. Therefore, avoid humidity and do not leave the umbrella hanging in a shoe cabinet.
When not in use, tying it with a string or band during storage will help prevent the "jaw" from straightening.

We offer a diverse range of types, including those with the bark intact, those with the bark peeled and seared, and those painted in dark brown or light brown. Since the natural wood branches are bent, the handle's surface may show wrinkles or cracks. Please understand that these are characteristics of the material.

The branches are processed into high-grade toothpicks, chopsticks, etc. Since natural wood branches are bent and processed, each one has a different shape. Currently, we can no longer create new Kuromoji handles because the craftsmen who could process Kuromoji into umbrella handles have disappeared. Therefore, it is the rarest of all umbrella handles.
The tasteful, masculine Kuromoji handle looks wonderful when paired with an umbrella with a beautiful silhouette.

The handles, made from German cherry wood, are bent while the bark is still attached, in its pristine state. The moist handle, with its bark, exudes an aroma reminiscent of "sakura mochi" (cherry blossom rice cakes).
Regarding aging:
As it is a delicate natural wood, the bark may peel off if there are significant changes in temperature or humidity where it is stored. If you use it while being mindful of the storage environment, the rough wood surface will become glossy and smoothly textured.

Ramuda started as a belt shop in 1946, so we are able to offer leather-wrapped handles for umbrellas, which are used on rainy days. The stitching and embossing are all carefully hand-sewn by craftsmen.
Since waterproof leather is used, you can use it with confidence even in the rain. The grip is firm and non-slip, making it very functional.
Of particular note is the mesh handle.
It is made with a technique that requires extremely delicate skills, where the leather is hand-woven to match the handle. Unfortunately, there are no longer any craftsmen with this skill, and the ones we have preserved are the last. As this is a very valuable handle, please contact us if you are interested.
