"Tokyo Teshigoto" by Traditional Craftspeople

With the collaboration of textile designer Hana Mitsui, we have created a beautiful umbrella featuring a delicate, rainbow-like color gradation. This product leverages the heritage of Koshu-ori—a textile with over 400 years of history—produced in the Gun'nai region (centered on Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture), a renowned hub for umbrella fabric manufacturing.

About the Design...

This collection features two colorways and two stripe patterns (pinstripe and bold stripe), delicately capturing the shifting hues of the sky from morning to night. We developed a unique textile by skillfully manipulating the weave structure and lavishly using three times the amount of weft yarn found in standard umbrella fabrics; this creates a material that displays a diverse range of colors depending on the angle and the light.
By varying the width of the stripes, we are able to craft two distinct types of umbrellas—one with bold stripes and one with fine stripes—from a single type of fabric. These umbrellas are meticulously crafted by traditional artisans using this textile, which embodies the essence of Japanese craftsmanship. The three-dimensional form of the umbrella further accentuates the beauty of the fabric, while the complex, shifting colors add a beautiful, vibrant touch to everyday life.

This two-fold umbrella prioritizes functionality while showcasing the exquisite beauty of its lustrous, delicately graduated textile design.
It features a convenient "2-way" storage case that allows you to slip the wet umbrella inside without folding it down first.
For compact storage when not in use, the case can be folded and secured with a button.
Additionally, the fabric is UV-treated (blocking over 90% of ultraviolet rays), making it suitable for use in both sun and rain.

We recommend air-drying the umbrella in the shade overnight before storing it.

If the repair requires a fee, you will be required to transfer the repair fee and the return shipping fee to us.
